Lynn Lu received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University with a major in Sculpture and a minor in Graphic Design in 1999. In 1998, she studied with Christian Boltanski at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and at the École Marchutz in Aix-en-Provence. She earned her MFA in New Genres at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2002, and completed a PhD program (ABD) at Musashino Art University in Tokyo in 2008, on a full scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2010 she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Newcastle in Australia.

Among other honors, Lynn Lu was awarded Southampton Solent University’s Research and Enterprise Grant in 2012, the Singapore National Arts Council International Development Grants in 2013 (USA), 2011 (UK, Singapore, France), 2010 (USA, UK), in 2009 (New Zealand, Germany, Australia, China), in 2008 (Denmark, Belarus, Switzerland, Indonesia), in 2007 (Philippines, Germany, Poland, Austria, Australia), and in 2006 (Germany, Poland, USA, Vietnam), the National Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant, and the Lee Foundation Grant in 2003. She received the Lois Nellie Gill Award from the Ucross Foundation in 2000, and the Samuel Rosenberg Senior Art Award from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. She has also been granted several prestigious artist fellowships, including residencies at the Ucross Foundation, Djerassi Resident Artist Program, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony in the United States, Appreroom X-Change in Sembalun Village, Lombok Island, Indonesia, and Unitec in Auckland, New Zealand.

Since 1997, Lynn has exhibited and performed extensively in the United States, Singapore, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece, Argentina, and Canada.
